August 1, 2009 MyApartmentMap Housing Scholarship This scholarship can be used for on-campus or off-campus housing.  The scholarship is awarded twice per year. Must be a U.S. resident who is 18 years or older and is attending or will attend a accredited college, university, or trade school. $1,000 will be awarded.  Write an essay of 250 words or less.  For further details and instructions on how to apply.  Click here.
September 17, 2009 Atlas Shrugged Essay Contest Scholarships will be awarded to students who read Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand and write a 800 to 1,600 word essay on various topics about the book.  First prize is a $10,000 scholarship.  You must be at least a senior in high school. September 28, 2009 Latinos of Tomorrow  Scholarship Fest & Essay Workshop The Latinos of Tomorrow Fall 2009 Scholarship Fest and Essay Workshop to help seniors in high school and college students get a jump start in identifying and preparing to apply for college scholarships opportunities for the 2010/2011 academic year.  Limited Spots Available and Advance Registeration is Required. October 13, 2009 EVENT: KCK College Night The annual KCK College Night will be held at KCK Community College in the Jewell Building. There will be many colleges in attendance. High School juniors and seniors and families are encouraged to attend.
October 30, 2009 Horatio Alger Scholarship Program 100 scholarships worth $20,000 each are awarded.  Students must be committed to earning a bachelor's degree, come from a family with high financial need, demonstrate high academic performance, and be involved in co-curricular activities.  click here
October 31, 2009 Coca Cola Scholars Scholarship 50 scholarships worth $20,000 each and 200 scholarships worth $10,000 each are awarded.  Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA.  Scholarships are awarded based on academic performance and extracurricular activities. November 1, 2009 Ron Brown Scholar Program A minimum of 10 scholarships worth $40,000 each will be awarded to African American seniors.  Applicants must excel academically, exhibit leadership potential, participate in community service, and show financial need.  For eligibility requirements and to apply go here.
November 2, 2009 Elks National Foundation  2010 Most Valuable Student 500 Four-Year Awards ranging from $60,000 to $4000. Any high school senior and a U.S. citizen is eligible to apply.  To download an application  click here
Nov 1, 2009 (Early notification Deadline) University of Kansas Freshman Scholarships Students must apply to KU by Nov. 1st to have the best opportunity to earn freshman scholarships. Students must have at least a 3.25 GPA to be eligible for a scholarship. Go here to apply to KU online.

Applications accepted year-round. Scholarships awarded on Nov. 1 and June 1 Kansas Foster and Adoptive Children Scholarship Fund This scholarship can pay all tuition, fees, housing, and book costs at Kansas colleges. To be eligible for this scholarship students must have been or currently are foster children in the State of Kansas. Nov 21, 2009 ACLU of Kansas/Western Missouri Youth Activist Scholarship This scholarship is for a senior in Kansas or Western Missouri who has demonstrated a commitment to civil liberties activism. To qualify students must have a 3.0 GPA and be planning on attending a college full-time next year. Go here for more information and to apply.
November 21, 2009 Belles of the American Royal (BOTAR) Presidents' Scholarship The Presidents' Scholarship is awarded to an applicant who best represents the spirit of volunteerism as determined by representatives of the BOTAR Organization. To qualify students must be a high school senior or current undergratuate college student. Have completed at least 15 volunteer hours at American Royal events and Have maintained a GPA of at least a 2.5.  Click here for application and more information.
November 30, 2009 Black Achievers Society of Greater Kansas City Scholarship Six $1,000 scholarships are available for African American graduating seniors.  Applications are available in school counselor offices.
Dec 1, 2009 Hmong National Development Educational Scholarship For students of Hmong ethnicity.  Application calls for an essay, activities summary, and one letter of recommendation.  For more information and application chick here.

A program for Latino high school students in Kansas City. Juniors and seniors are eligible to apply. Some scholarships will be awarded to students who participate. More information about this event is included in this document. The application form is available here.
Dec 15, 2009 Kansas School Safety Hotline Scholarship Nine scholarships will be awarded. This scholarship is sponsored by the Kansas Highway Patrol and the Kansa Dept. of Education. To earn the scholarship students must design a poster, radio ad, or TV ad to promote the school safety hotline.  Go here for more information.
December 21, 2009 Martin Luther King Scholarship Many $500 scholarships will be awarded to KCK students who are role models for social change.  Students must provide background information and write a 500 word essay.  Applications are available in school counselor offices. They are also available at the Talent Search Offfice.
Date TBA BET Next Level Scholarship Competition Four scholarships will be awarded.  Students must write a 500 word essay describing "what obstacles you have overcome to realize your dream of a college education".  For more information and to apply go here.
Date TBA K-State Edgerley-Franklin Urban Leadership Scholarship This scholarship is worth $3,000 per year and can be renewed for four years at Kansas State University. Students must have at least a 3.5 GPA, have a strong community service record, and minor in Leadership Studies at K-State. For more information and to apply go here.
Jan 1 to June 30, 2010 Fill out the FAFSA to quality for federal financial aid All seniors who will graduate in 2009 and plan to pursue higher education should fill out the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1, 2008.  Many colleges require students to have the FAFSA completed by March 1st to get priority for available aid.  For more information and to fill it out go to www.fafsa.ed.gov/

Pays all college costs; 1000 awarded yearly;  Students must have a 3.3 GPA, show financial need, and be African American, American Indian, Asian, or  Hispanic.  This is a long application- Students should start on it at least 1 month in advance. January 15, 2010 Dell Scholars Program Pays all college costs; 250 awarded yearly; Students must have a 2.4 GPA, show financial need, and participate in a college readiness program for at least 2 years.  This is a long application- Students should start on it at least 1 month in advance. Jan, 2010? Kansas State University Opportunity Scholarship Award Scholarship for first generation minority college-bound students.  Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA and plan to attend K-State.  Interested students should speak with their school counselor.
January 18, 2010 Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund (APIASF) $2500 scholarships for students who are of Asian or Pacific Islander descent.  Students must be incoming freshman and have at least a 2.7 GPA.  Go here for more information.
Jan, 22 2010 KCK West Kiwanis Club Educational Grant Nine $500 scholarships will be awarded to KCK college bound students with at least a 3.0 GPA.  Applications are available at school counselor offices.
January 23, 2010 Tom Joyner Foundation Scholarship Full ride scholarship to any Historically Black College or University (HBCU).  Student must have at least a 3.5 GPA and have a 1300 on the SAT or 28 on the ACT.  The application is available here.

This event is put on by the KU Admissions Office and is intended to inform students about KU. The event will take place at the Education Center at Indian Springs from 6:00-7:30 pm. For more information go here.

January 31, 2010 KU Balanced Man Scholarship Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity at The University of Kansas ("KU SigEp") is awarding various amounts of scholarships to incoming freshman males. Click here for more information and application

February 1, 2010 USDA/1890 National Scholars Program This scholarship must be used at 1 of the 18, 1890 Historically Black Land-Grant Institutions. Each award provides annual tuition, fees, books, room and board, employee benefits, use of a laptop computer, printer, and software while on scholarship for 4 academic years.  Please read the requirements thoroughly, you must major in agriculture, food, natural sciences, or other related disciplines.   Click here to view the application and requirements.
Feb 1, 2010? UMKC College of Arts and Sciences General Scholarship Many scholarships are available through the UMKC College of Arts and Sciences.  Students must be accepted to UMKC.  See list of scholarships and apply here.
February 1, 2010 BK Scholars Scholarship Scholarship worth $1,000. To be eligible students must work for at least 15 hours per week, have a 2.5 GPA, have community service experience, and be able to demostrate financial need. For more information and to apply go here.
Feb 1, 2010? KCKCC Presidential Scholarship Must be graduating seniors from Wyandotte or Leavenworth County.  Students must have a 3.3 GPA and ACT scores of 19+ Math, 26+ Reading, 22+ English.  Student must also take Accuplacer exam at KCKCC and meet qualifying scores.  Go here for more info.
February 10,  2010 Stacey Ann Hardwick Scholarship- Alpha Kappa Alpha This scholarship is for African American students in Kansas City. Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5. An information form and the application are available here.
February 10, 2010 KFC Colonel's Scholarship This program is offered to high school seniors planning to attend a public in-state college or university. Students who meet the criteria may apply online to become a KFC’s Colonel’s Scholar. Students selected for this scholarship are eligible to receive up to $20,000 to complete a bachelor’s degree program. Click here for more information and to apply.
February 21, 2010 Event: College Goal Sunday Free event to help senior high school students fill out the FAFSA.  The event will last from 2:00-4:00. There are two locations in Wyandotte County- KCKCC and Donnelly College.
February 15, 2010 Excellence in Geosciences Scholarship Program This scholarship is for minority students in Kansas City that are interested in studying geosciences. $5000 will be awarded to five students who apply to and are accepted into the department of Geosciences at UMKC or into any other Geoscience program in Missouri. February 15,  2010 Best Buy Scholarship Most scholarships are worth $1500.  Students must have a 2.5 GPA, live within 70 miles of a Best Buy store and demonstrate commitment to volunteer community service.  For more information go here.
Feb 2010? Kansas Association of Directors of Plant Facilities Scholarship Three scholarships are available for Kansas students who are seniors and have a parent that is a custodial worker.  The application must be completed by your high school counselor.  For information and an application go here.
February 15, 2010 USA Funds Access to Education Scholarships Many $1500 scholarships will be awarded.  Students must be from low-income families (annual adjusted gross income of $35,000 or less).  Kansas is one of the eight priority states!  50% of awards will go to ethnic minority students.  Go here for more information.
Feb 2010? Event: Minority Scholarship Fair Wonderful scholarship event sponsored by the  Infinite Scholars Program and the Urban League of Greater Kansas City.  Go here for more information.
Feb 2010? Lucile Berry Scholarship Scholarship for a male, high school senior who attended kindergarten at Grant Elementary School in KCK.  Student must have a 2.5 GPA and write an essay. For more information go here and to apply online go here.
March 1, 2010 Hispanic Scholarship Fund- General Application Students must be of Hispanic Heritage, be a U.S. citizen, and have at least a 3.0 GPA.  Awards range from $1,000 to $5,000.  For more information go here.
March 1, 2010 American Chemical Society Scholarships

The American Chemical Society (ACS) Scholars Program awards renewable scholarships of up to $5,000 to under represented minority students who want to enter the fields of chemistry or chemistry-related fields, such as environmental science, toxicology and chemical technology. March 1, 2010 UMKC Mbembe Milton Smith Scholarship One scholarship will  be given to a student who demonstrates talent in writing, especially creative writing.  You must enroll at UMKC full-time, be a resident of the Kansas City metropolitan area, and have a 3.0 GPA in high school.  Click here for more information and application.
March 1, 2010 UMKC Joel Christopher Brown Book Scholarship This scholarship is designed to assist students at UMKC with the cost of books.  You must be a high school graduate, be a current resident of Wyandotte county in KS or other listed counties on the application, Must have a 3.0 GPA.  This scholarship is available for current UMKC students also.  Please click here to view the application.
March 1, 2010 UMKC Delta Chi Scholarship Scholarship of a varied amount.  Student must be admitted to UMKC, affiliated with the Delta Chi Fraternity, U.S. Citizen, enroll full-time at UMKC, show leadership and community involvement, and must have a 3.0 GPA. Click here for more information and application. 
March 2010? UMKC Institute for Urban Education Scholarship Scholarship for students who want to be teachers and will commit to teaching in an urban school district for four years.  Covers tuition and fees for four years.  Student must be admitted to UMKC.  For more information and to apply go here.

March 2010? Berri Mitchell Memorial AAFA Scholarship Scholarship sponsored by the Kansas City Chapter of the Asthma and Allery Foundation of America. Multiple $1,000 scholarships will be awarded. To be eligible students must have a history of asthma or allergies, be successful academically, and be involved in their schools and communities. The application is available here.
March 2010? Best Buy Emerging Hispanic Leaders Scholarship Two $10,000 scholarships and two $5000 scholarships will be awarded to graduating Hispanic students who demonstrate excellence in community and school.  Students must have a 2.0 GPA and have to write an essay.  Go here to apply.
March 2010? Dole Scholarship Program Up to 128 scholarships worth $1000 will be awarded. Students must have a 3.0, be interested in politics, and be involved in community service and extracurricular activities.  Students must enroll at a Kansas Regents University or Washburn University.  Go here for the scholarship website.
March 2010? Kansas Society of Certified Public Accountants, Inc. Scholarship 10 scholarships will be awarded ranging in value from $500 to $1300.  Students must be high school seniors who will attend a Kansas university or college and major in accounting.  Students with high ACT and SAT scores should apply.  Go here for more information.
March 13, 2010? Kansas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers Students must have above a 3.25 GPA, an ACT score of at least 22, and evidence of leadership.  Go here for an application and instructions.
March 15, 2010 National Institutes of Health Undergraduate Scholarship Program This scholarship for students pursuing careers in biomedical, behavior, and social science health related research is worth up to $20,000 per year.  To qualify students must have a 3.5 GPA and be from a low-income family.  For more information and to apply go here.
March 15, 2010? Kansas English As A Second Language (ESL) Scholarship Scholarship for Kansas students who will attend a Kansas college or university.  Students must have been enrolled in a bilingual or ESL program during high school.  For information and an application go here.
March 15, 2010? Kansas City, Kansas Council of PTA Scholarship Five scholarships worth $300 each will be awarded to KCK high school seniors who plan to attend college or technical school.  Students must have at a 2.0 GPA. Applications are available in high school counselor offices.

K-State at Salina ELITE Engineering Technology Scholarship Scholarship worth up to $5000 per year at K-State, Salina.  Students must be accepted to the K-State, Salina Engineering Technology degree program and demonstrate financial need.  For more information about the ELITE Scholarship Program go here.

Hewlett Packard Diversity in Education Scholarship Program This scholarship is worth $12,000 (3,000 per year for four years).  It is for students interested in Engineering.  Students must be from an underrepresented ethnic minority group (African American, Latino, or American Indian)  Go here for more information and to apply.
March 15, 2010? The Ford Mi Fuerza Program Scholarship The scholarship amount is $500-5000.  Students must be Hispanic, be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident, have at least a 3.0 GPA, and demonstrate financial need.  Go here to apply.

Cowley County Community College TRIO Scholarship Full tuition scholarship available.  Students must be an Upward Bound or Talent Search graduate from the state of Kansas and have at least a 2.5 GPA.  To apply, fill out application form here and make sure to write TRIO on the application form.
March 15, 2010? Hispanic College Fund Scholarships Students must be of Hispanic Heritage, be a U.S. citizen, and have at least a 3.0 GPA.  Awards range from $500 to $5,000.  For more information go here.

The Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA) Scholarship The average scholarship amount is $1250-1500.  Students must be Hispanic, be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident, have at least a 3.0 GPA, and be majoring in business, finance, or accounting.  Go here to apply.
March 20, 2009? Brown Foundation: Teacher Quest Scholarship Program Awards are $300 to $2500.  Students must have a 3.0 GPA and be admitted to a college teacher education program. For more information go here.

March 31, 2010? Trent Green Scholarship Fund $1000 scholarship that is renewable up to four years.  Student must be a graduating senior from Kansas City, Kansas with at least a 2.75 GPA who wants to be a teacher.  For more information and to apply go here
March 31, 2010? Hancock Family Foundation Scholarship Scholarships for graduating seniors from Kansas City who can demonstrate financial need and have at least a B- average GPA.  For more information and an application go here

The Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship Program Many scholarships awarded up to $7500 per year.  Student must be a racial minority and demonstrate financial need.  Student must have a minimum ACT score of 21 or SAT score of 1000.  For more information and and application click here.
March 31, 2010? Syed Farrukh Shabbir, M.D. Memorial Scholarship A $500 and a $250 scholarship will be awarded to graduating seniors in the Kansas City area. "Kansas City Initiative Scholarship" Scholarships will be awarded to students who meet the following criteria.  Minority High School Seniors attending a Kansas City Metro area high school with a GPA of 3.0 or above and planning on attending UMKC or a United Negro College Fund School.  Click here for more information and application.
April 1, 2010? National Black Coalition of Federal Aviation Employees Scholarship Scholarship for students who want to pursue aviation related careers. Students must have a 2.5 GPA and be African American. 16 scholarships will be awarded worth $1700 each. For an application go here.
April 2010? Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Scholarship Scholarship for students in the Kansas City area who are African American and have at least a 2.5 GPA.  For information go here and for an application go here.
April 4, 2010? Kansas Junior Golf Scholarship Scholarship for senior students who are high school golfers or participated in junior golf programs. Students must attend plan on attending a Kansas college or university. For more information and an application go here.
April 12, 2010 KCK Public Schools Promise of Possibilities (POP) Scholarship Two $1000 scholarships will be awarded to seniors at each of the five KCK high schools.  Students must have a 2.5 GPA and a 90% senior attendance rate to qualify.  Go here for information and the application.  Applications should be turned in to your school counselor.

KCK Public Schools Foundation For Excellence Scholarship Twelve scholarships worth $3000 will be awarded to KCK students.  Students must have at least a 2.0 GPA and a 90% attendance rate.  For an application go here.
April 2010? Steve Harper Scholarship A $1000 scholarship for a Kansas senior who plans to study photography or natural sciences in college.  For more information and an application go here.
April 2010? National Black Nurses Association Scholarship These scholarships range from $500 to $2000.  Candidates must be currently enrolled in a Nursing Program.  For information and an application go here.
April 2010? KCK Grow Your Own Scholarship for Prospective Teachers This scholarship for students who plan to attend college and become teachers is worth $1000 per year for up to 5 years.  Five scholarships will be awarded (one from each KCK high school).  Go here for the application.
April 2010? American Dream Scholarship Fund Scholarships range from $500-$5000.  Students must be African American, have a 2.5 GPA, and be eligible for the Pell Grant.  Go here to apply.
April 2010? The First In My Family Scholarship Scholarships range from $500-$5000.  Students must be Hispanic American, have a 3.0 GPA, be the first in their family to attend college and have financial need.  Go here to apply.
April 2010? Hormel Foods Character Counts Scholarship Two $1000.00 Scholarships will be awarded to Kansas City seniors.  Students must have at least a 2.5 GPA.  For scholarship information and an application click here
April 2010? Blacks in Government of Greater Kansas City Oratorical Contest Three money awards will be made to student winners- $400 for first, $200 for second, and $100 for third place. April 2010? Sobriety Rocks Scholarship Three $1000 scholarships are available through the Kansas Dept. of Transportation for students who write songs.  Students must be from Kansas and between the ages of 14 and 21.  For more information go here.
April 2010? Chandler-Turner Family Scholarship Three $250 scholarships will be awarded to KCK graduating seniors.  Students must be African American.  Students must write an essay and submit two letters of recommendation.  Speak to your high school counselor for an application.
April 2010? The Herbert Lehman Educations Fund Scholarships A $2000 per year scholarship for high school seniors who have demonstrated excellent character and leadership potential.  To apply students must write to the Fund to request an application by March 31st.  Instructions on how to do this can be found here.
April 2010? American Planning Association Minority Scholarships Many scholarships are available to students who are majoring in or plan to major in planning in the public sector.  Go here for more information.
May 2010? Kansas Board of Regents Financial Aid State of Kansas sponsored scholarships and financial aid.  All students planning on attending a Kansas state university should apply.  For more information click here.
May 2010? Kansas Nursing Scholarship Students must be residents of Kansas and majoring in nursing.  270 scholarships are awarded and are each worth $3,500.  For more information click here.
May 2010? Actuary Diversity Scholarship Scholarship for African American, Hispanic, and Native American students.  Students must have at least a 3.0. Go here for the application.

May 2010? KCKCC- G.E.D. Presidential Scholarship Two full tuition scholarships are awarded to students who earn the highest G.E.D. scores at KCKCC.  Go here for more information.
May 2010? Sallie Mae Fund- Unmet Need Scholarship Scholarships range from $1000 to $3800.  Must have a combined family income of less than $30,000 and have at least a 2.5 GPA.  For more information go here.
May 2010? Bill Spaniol Memorial Scholarship A $500 scholarship through the Kansas Environmental Health Association for a graduating senior from a Kansas high school that is interested in biological or physical sciences.  Students must have a 3.0 GPA.  Go here for more information.

To be eligible for this scholarship students must have been or currently are foster children in the State of Kansas. Meeks, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Scholarship for a senior student from Wyandotte County who has been involved with YouthFriends Corps.  Students must have a 2.5 GPA and plan to attend a 2 or 4 year college.  Information and an application are available on pages 5-9 of this document.
Until all spots are filled Donnelly/K-State Project TEACH Scholarship This is a full tuition scholarship for future ESL teachers.  The first two years are at Donnelly and the last two at K-State.  20 students are selected.  Students must speak a second language.
